Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops Seek Mercy for Those of Death Row

Saddened but not deterred with recent Pardon Board decision.

The LCCB met with Governor’s Edwards and provided public comment at the Pardon Board hearing to remove the death sentence for individuals on death row but remain in prison for life without parole. Although we were not successful as Pardon Board denied their appeals, we continue to educate on the consistent life ethic and that life is sacred from conception to natural death.

Our testimony and catholic tradition remain focused on restorative justice. Mercy is the pinnacle of justice; mercy informs justice and mercy enlarges justice for the victim, the offender, and the wider community. LCCB will continue to affirm our consistent life ethic and the culture of life from conception to natural death despite this setback for our pro-life efforts in Louisiana.
