We write as shepherds entrusted with the care of souls and with promoting the dignity of every human person. Guided by the Gospel, the Catholic Church’s teaching that all life is sacred from conception to natural death, and concern for human dignity and care for the vulnerable.

As Catholics, we believe in the God-given dignity of every human life, from conception until natural death. Every abortion ends the life of an unborn child, but the widespread availability of abortion pills also raises serious concerns for the health and well-being of women.

The removal of safeguards that once required an in-person visit with a physician means that women may obtain these drugs without an examination to determine the length of pregnancy or to rule out conditions such as an ectopic pregnancy. The Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops has written to U.S. Attorney Blanche to expedite the safety review as soon as possible.

The State of Louisiana has estimated in pleadings in the Louisiana v. FDA case that 870 chemical abortions occur each month.[1] That amounts to the deliberate death of more than 10,000 living humans each year in Louisiana.
