Louisiana’s Catholic Dioceses

The Catholic Church in Louisiana is organized into seven geographic jurisdictions: the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and the six dioceses of Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Houma-Thibodaux, Lafayette, Lake Charles, and Shreveport. Together, they form the Ecclesiastical Province of New Orleans and serve Catholic communities throughout every region of our state.

Each archdiocese or diocese is entrusted with supporting its local parishes, clergy, religious communities, schools, ministries, and charitable organizations. Through these local Churches, Louisiana Catholics gather for worship, receive the sacraments, grow in faith, and serve their neighbors.

Although each diocese responds to the particular pastoral needs of its local communities, Louisiana’s bishops work together through the Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops to offer a unified Catholic voice on matters affecting the Church and the common good.
