Reflecting on the third week of the ’15 Louisiana Legislative Session and planning for the week ahead…
The Louisiana Legislature heard two issues during this past week that the LCCB has consistently spoken to: MEDICAID EXPANSION and SEX EDUCATION IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Each of these issues yielded unwelcome outcomes as Medicaid Expansion failed in both House and Senate Health and Welfare committees, while Sex Education in Public Schools passed the House Education committee by a vote of 8-6.
The Advocate noted the LCCB’s involvement in the Sex Education in Public Schools measure as did other new sources: http://theadvocate.com/news/12236551-123/mandatory-sex-ed-bill-for
In anticipating the week ahead, legislation addressing raising the tax on tobacco products, requirements pertaining to the state scholarship program, and prohbiting abortion based on sex selection will all be on the LCCB’s radar.
